I think I found my mysterious no drip on the ground oil leak. This hose is not fitting correctly on the oil intake pipe (oil intake pipe?). I'd post this on the ranger forum if I knew what it was called, sorry for cluttering up oppo with my truck. I know the hose needs replacing, there is alot of oil residue on the block directly below it and dripping from the oil pan further below it. The Ranger forums are not setup in a way that makes it easy to name a part. So anybody here know what this hose is called so I can get a new one?
The hose in question is highlighted in green

in the UK we'd call that an oil breather pipe.

Oil Breather or Recirculation Hose — honestly, go to your local Autozone with that hose and just get a generic replacement rubber hose that you cut to size and put in place with hose clamps. That should do the trick.

Incidentally, the older the engine, the more likely these are to be an absolute shitstorm of leaking oil. The older the engine, the lower the compression, the more blow-by... which means there is a constant whirling typhoon of combustion gases throwing oil droplets up this pipe under light pressure. Oil can blow out in massive quantities when bad.
Basically, the point of this pipe is to allow your crankcase to breathe - mostly out - and not just dump oil droplets somewhere unsafe. It lets your engine eat the excess combustion gas and oil droplets instead of the ground.

Yep, he got it. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace your PCV valve while you're at it.

Don't worry about posting too much. This is a car blog, the point is to talk cars with other people. You've got a new (to you) vehicle, you're excited about it, and you have questions. If that bugs people, then they can suck it up and get over it.
The moment we stifle someone who has the desire to learn to drive a stick and do DIY maintenance we become no better than the people who treat cars like appliances and look forward to autonomous vehicles.

I just realized how terrible it is to have a fuel injected engine and no OBDII. Its so stupid how it took that long to figure out something as small as a 6" hose

OBDII won't help find leaks.
Shit, OBDII won't help you find most issues.

It still better than just guessing till you figure it out. OBDI only does emissions stuff

Pretty much. With an older engine, the presence of a lot of oil around/in this pipe isn't unusual... the pipe leaking that oil is.

That's all OBDII computers do. Seriously, it's just the second generation of computer. It's main function is to see what the O2 sensors are putting out and adjust the motor accordingly. It doesn't notice oil leaks. It will notice vacuum leaks, but it sure as fuck won't tell you where.

Looking at pictures of 4.0s on google I realized my hose is about a half inch too short, its not gripping the mount. Im so bad with words today, sorry

At least Ill know if its a vacuum leak or a gasket. I was thinking it was the RMS for a while, that was waaaay off

On an old Mercedes diesel, the hose is only like a half inch big inside. It's very possible to get enough blow-by that the valve cover gets pressurized and weeps oil under the gasket. Really, at that point, one should repair the engine, but it *is* possible to just embiggen the line.

But diesels ignite by compression not spark right? That would make sense why the engine would need repairing
RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht

Well, the biggest thing that lots of blow-by means is that compression is much lower than it's supposed to be... *whatever that is*. Gas engines with a lot of blow-by are well capable of running like shit, believe you me. In a diesel with very high original compression, you can still have enough compression to run while having hideous amounts of blow-by. This is... not good. Mostly because that means you're eating enough oil that the engine might decide to do a runaway.
In a gas engine, you're just in the "runs like shit" camp, which is on the border of "may try to run out of oil" land.

Go and buy a copy of the factory/dealer service manual for it, they're out there and will save you time and hassle. All cars are the same underneath the computers or with out them.

I have been noticing it idles weird. not bad just weird. Its been going back and forth between 650rpm and 700rpm every 30 seconds or so. But I usually dont let it idle too long. And I know Im low on oil, not low enough to cause damage, but low enough to need more

Weird idles are kind of the "excess gas" health problem of engines. So many causes and lack of causes that a diagnosis is often "who the fuck knows?"
You should lose less oil on replacing that hose, anyway. It won't haphazardly dribble out oil that should have made it back down the pipe to the crankcase.

It makes sense why it never dripped on the ground and why its all the way down the bottom of the truck. Its a pressurized line, It only leaked when the truck is on

My 95 5.0 has ECC IV (OBD I) which does more than emissions its not as advanced as OBDII. If you can read the stupid Morse code flashing lights of the code scanner correctly you can diagnose some issues.

Denver,
I appreciate your enthusiasm, think you're a valuable contributor to OPPO, and love that you're teaching yourself how to drive a manual.
However, if people are already getting annoyed by the frequency of your posts, sharing a comment to OPPO from a person that agrees with you that you're not posting too much is probably not going to convince anyone who's already annoyed with you that you are, in fact, not annoying them. Just saying...
Hope you're enjoying your Chanukah celebrations!
